1977 Maserati Merak SS RHD, chassis 435

The Merak in its best form - a genuine Euro spec SS, not a converted US spec. car.

56,500 miles on the clock - which according to the MOT`s and service records looks genuine.

Within the last 18 months the car has had:

A full engine rebuild - including new main and big end bearings, piston rings, gaskets, timing chains etc. and most important of all, solid exhuast valves. Also various hoses and wires. Bills and old parts included.

Hydraulic system fully refurbished - all new spheres, rebuilt pump, lhm pickup pipe, tank filler neck etc.

New clutch

Rebuilt boot floor area.

Battery and many other items replaced to make this literally useable as a daily driver if you wish - just get in and go! I have done around 2,000 miles this summer since the above items have been replaced.

A folder of records and bills of other work that has been done in the past before my ownership including replaced fuel tank floors, rebuilt gearbox and electrical items to name a few.

Note that engine picture is just a close up when the work was carried out, so though not on the photos, the airbox, pipework and spare wheel are all present and in good order. Also artifacts on the bodywork are just reflections off the roof and road.

Car was re-sprayed in the mid 90`s and still looks lovely with a deep almost mirror shine and no fading.

It is not absolutely pristine - there are a few blemishes and chips and some freckles on the headlight pods - but nothing that stands out. The body is incredibly straight and the panel fit is exceptional. It`s good enough to show or just stare at in your garage!

Interior is very good - from headlining to carpets. Seats are obviously used but still very good with a little wear on the drivers seat bolster but not ripped. Though looking cream in the photos, the leather is more tan coloured in real life.

Every switch and item works and works well - except for the A/C which is disconnected and the cassette part of the radio (which is not original anyway). There are no broken stalks, and the heater is excellent.

All trim, brightwork, badges, bumpers, lenses, grilles etc. are there and in great condition.

Drives very nicely with a well controlled but very confortable ride, modern effortless steering (other than parking!),  power assisted clutch which is lighter than a Nissan Micra`s and phenomenal brakes. Feels like you are hardly moving at 70 mph - it`s hard to believe the speedo, I had to double check it with GPS!

Engine sounds deep and burbly at low revs and can be driven like a normal car with plenty of low down torque and decent fuel economy (25 MPG).

Sounds like an old school racing car when the V6 comes on cam with its 3 twin choke carbs. Much quicker than people think - straight line performance is similar to an early Boxster, not bad for a 30 year old baby Maserati!

Shifts smoothly up and down the gears even when cold (non of that gear crunching until it gets warm rubbish!)

Unlike examples with worn out hydraulics, the brakes on this one still give dozens of applications, hours after turning off the engine.

Not the typical Merak pulled out of a barn and somehow made roadworthy so long as you only take it down the road once a month (until the original sodium exhuast valves snap!) This one is in regular, sometimes daily use.

Taxed and MOT`d  of course, so test drives welcome providing your insurance covers you.

£21,995.

Whatever method of payment is used, funds must clear before car is released.

Overseas buyers welcome but remember this is RHD.

Would swap for a Pantera needing work (but not a basket case), a Jalpa in ok condition/needing light recommisioning or a carbed 308 GTS in similar condition to my Merak. I am not in a postion to trade up to any of them in better condition than stated, though I would of course trade down if they are needing much more work.

I am situated just a few miles from the end of the M62 about 15 miles West of Hull, East Yorkshire.
