I will be posting a YOU TUBE video in coming weeks for anyone who wants to see what an 090 is capable of, when you see the videos you will all wish you had one. The videos currently on You Tube are a joke, they teach you that an 090 is worthless, its amazing how little 99.9% of you guys know about big saws, this saw when setup correctly will fill buckts of saw dust as fast as a fire hose. Anyone running an 090G see info posted below.

 

Stihl quit making the 090 in all countries about 6 years ago because they couldn't pass emissions standards so it's easy to get new parts but the saw itself is irreplaceable. You can find the 090 without an AV system easily enough but they only made this one with AV for a short time and they are very rare. If you've ever run the non AV you know how impossible that is to operate, a non AV will vibrate so bad you'll wish you never heard of an 090 don't get stuck with the non AV version, if you buy a non AV version remember I told you so. There was a previous version of 090AV made, more cumbersome but useable If you must own an 090 get the AV version and get a big sprocket, I sell the sprocket kits see Item number: 360431586733

 

Great collectors specimen or everyday work horse this is the biggest production saw ever made or ever will be made. Stihl quit making them because they couldn't pass emissions standards.

Maybe you need a BIG saw for splitting logs for helicopter, just cutting big wood, racing or maybe you just want to brag about having the nicest biggest saw in the world it's worth the money. If you depend on your saw to do a full days work without break downs this is it, with an oversized sprocket this Stihl 090 will rock your world. The 090 is not a high revving engine it has low RPMs but lots of torque and really benefits greatly by having a big sprocket. This saw comes with 10 tooth Race rim sprocket installed. long bars 10 tooth 404 is recommended or for short bars a 12 tooth will make that wood fly like you never seen before.

 

If you have to ask why the big price you probably don't need this saw think 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle, GO BIG OR GO HOME!

 

The excuse Stihl made for stopping production of the 090 was it wouldn't meet emission standards but the truth is a serious lack of demand, they lacked demand because they only offered it with a low geared paddle wheel sprocket which made it all but useless. Anyone who ownes one of these saws and isn't an old timber faller probably has the paddle wheel firmly in place but insists on keeping because it should cut but doesn't. ANSWER: You have small sprockets.

Yes big sprockets will be harder on your chains and bar and other parts as the they speed up the chain and load the engine. Yes they cause more stress to everything but so do 500 HP engines in your favorite car but you decide if it's worth it. If you want to cut big wood fast then you need big sprockets. These are designed mainly for race saws so use accordingly at your own risk. The saw manufactors would rather you not use these but if you wanna fly you gotta buy. Allow one-four extra drivers per chain depending on what your useing now and how big  you go. 

You have no idea how well these big saws can cut until you get a Rocket Sprocket from tarzanziplines

For those who own or are thinking about buying an 090G Listen up good, those saws were made to run 1/2 pitch chain on 6 foot bars, the chain would weigh 4 pounds by itself and they needed a gear reduction to pull that chain thus the 090G was invented. IT IS USELESS for anything but a paper weight, it's clutch CAN'T be updated to make it useful. Don't buy an 090G for anything but parts for a regular 090 you have been warned!
