Rare Minton Majolica hare & mallard duck game pie dish

DESCRIPTION

Mintons Majolica game pie dish which features two hares and two mallard ducks to the lid and twisted rope handles to the base. Colouration: ochre, cobalt blue, brown, are predominant. The piece bears maker's marks for the Mintons pottery. Bears a pattern number, '1 990'. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1877. Book reference,'Majolica A complete History and illustrated Survey' by Karmason & Stacke, page 48, figure 1.

CONDITION

Cover: Generally good. Slight wear to the rim. KILN EFFECTS: stilt marks to the underside; glaze run to the green glaze. RESTORATION. All four ears reglued and joins retouched. Filled chips to the tips of three ears. Retouched flake to the back of one mallard's head and retouched paint loss to one hare's eye. Base: Good. KILN EFFECTS: glaze run to the green and cobalt blue glaze; uneven glaze application to the interior; a few small flecks of stray coloured glaze to the interior and basket weave ground. RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched crack to one handle and to the inner rim. Filled two chips to foot rim (one not coloured). Retouched flake to under rim.
