Volume eight of the Transactions contains the two papers by Viscount Walden which form his monograph on the birds of the Island of Celebes with ten handcoloured plates by Joseph Smit and two very interesting manuscript annotations to the first page of paper number ten. The papers are:

10. Owen, Richard. On Dinornis (part eighteen): containing a description of the pelvis and bones of the leg of Dinornis gravis. pp. 361-380 plates 58-61. With a neat library stamp above the drop title "New Zealand Institute Wellington" and inscribed "For the library of the New Zealand Institute with the respects of the author" and at the bottom of the same page "Probably however, some of Prof. Owen's species of Dinornis are but the young of others Capt. F. W. Hutton in Trans. N. Z. Institute v. page 232". Both hands are diffrent (with similarities) with the upper inscription that of Richard Owen.

11. Owen, Richard. On Dinornis (part nineteen): containing a description of a femur indicative of a new genus of large wingless bird (Dromornis australis, Owen) from a post-tertiary deposit in Queensland, Australia. pp. 381-384 plates 62-63.
