Remember Audio Alchemy? This was a company out of Silicon Valley in California that took the world by storm in the 1990’s, making truly Audiophile audio components without frill - pure function and incredible value was their mantra. One of their star engineers in their early years was Bascom King, renowned for his quality no-compromise designs that hit the nail on the head between cost and effectiveness … they sounded just right - smooth, dynamic and lush sounding.

For almost a decade this no-nonsense approach was a welcome relief to the market driven excesses of most audio industry companies who put a considerable portion of the manufacturing expense into what was essentially “bling effects” that had no intrinsic sonic value.  Audio Alchemy was known for their tremendous value – a great “Bang for the Buck”. This Ultra DAC System is in great cosmetic shape, with no major marks of any kind - all cables, switches, lights and terminations work as new – there are no issues.

You can choose between either Fiberoptic (Toslink) or Coaxial RCA inputs into the system, which then outputs standard analog signal on left and right channel RCA outputs.  The Ultra DAC is actually both a DAC and a "jitter" reduction unit. Jitter is imprecision in the timing of the discrete digital samples of the audio signal, either when recording or playing back. The Ultra DAC uses special circuitry to reduce "jitter" and lock on to the digital stream more accurately. Note that this is an “always on” system – there is no power on/off switch.  It is designed to do so, and also runs quite hot by design.  While this is a relatively small component, you will want to be sure to have adequate ventilation in your system.

This special Tara Labs RSC Custom Audio Alchemy Digital Coax Cable is a pricey upgrade was widely lauded as the most jitter free means of digital audio information transmission, and these cables are both highly sought after and rare.  The Power Supply Three is an upgrade from the standard "wall wort" type power supplies that normally came with each Audio Alchemy component.

This Audio Alchemy UltraDAC DTI & DITB system combination was from an era when Audio Alchemy was idealistic and inspired, and wanted to set the world on fire with extremely high quality board level PCB components. When new, this UltraDAC sold at a price point that was considered sensational considering their cutting edge technology. The DTI alone sold for $349 when new, and the DITB sold for $295. The proprietary Tara Labs cable was a $85 option, and the Power Supply Three sold individually for $80. All told, this package as individual components retailed for $809, and was a bargain at the “package price” of $695 with the Power Station 3 and the Tara Labs Interconnect. Here is a terrific opportunity to buy a complete set up that is in perfect working condition with essentially no major blemishes that does not show up for sale very often.
