Rare, nice-condition original early 1900s Honus Wagner cigar box for sale here. He's the Hall of Fame baseball player from the T206 baseball card fame.  That's the most expensive baseball card in existence, and here's the rarest Honus Wagner cigar box to go with any premium Wagner collection! NONE of this particular box design have sold in any of the big sports auction house sales, but a few similar Wagner cigar boxes have sold for up to $7,750. The one that sold for $7,750 was a Hunt Auctions sale for a 1903 Wagner box. Per eBay rules, I am not permitted to provide the link to that sale, but if you check a search engine for "Hans Honus Wagner cigar box sold Hunt Auctions Lot 737," it should pull right up for you.

You are looking at an historic artifact from the early 1900's, a National League Hans (Honus) Wagner cigar box with the label still intact. This item was purchased at an estate sale from California in 2012.

The box dates back to at least 1901 according to the Cigar Tax stamp across the top. The box is fully intact with only the outside trim and sticker showing signs of wear and tear. The bottom of the box is factory stamped and labelled Factory # 680 1st District PA. This factory was owned by the Litchen Bros Co in Philadelphia. Incidentally the three-line factory ID was used between 1883-1910, accompanied by the Caution Notice. It wasn't until after 1910 that the Caution Notice was also stamped on the bottom of each box. This a good indication that the age of this box is consistent with the 1901 Tax Revenue stamp.

The embossed label is a bit faded with the image showing signs of chipping due to it being possibly exposed to the elements but considering the age of the box, I personally think it has held up pretty well over the years and the image is still breathtaking each time you open the lid.

A couple of years ago, this box was appraised at a value of $4,000 - $6,000 by Lunds Auctioneers & Appraisers, which is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. The previous owner of this box did not provide me with any official paperwork on that, but I think that appraisal is accurate since I found 3 previous auction house sales for similar Wagner cigar boxes where the final hammer price was more than $5,000.
