010-00544-01 Is the correct Garmin part number for these.

For you MSN owners who have lost your coverage these are a great replacement to continue getting traffic alerts. These are plug and play meaning when you plug it in it will self install the traffic icons, your MSN Icon will be replaced by a traffic icon. MSN had its own networks and these differ so please check the Navteq coverage in your area . Simply just do a search for " Navteq coverage "

These are a 12v charger/traffic receiver for garmin GPS, I tested it and  it has a LIFETIME subscription for USA and some Canada Areas ! Do a search for Navteq traffic subscription coverage to see if your area is covered. Ebay wont allow me to post a link to coverage areas.

PLEASE READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH BEFORE YOU PURCHASE

You will need to have the latest software from Garmin for the lifetime receiver to work. Most GPS do but some dont. It wont show you the lifetime subscription if you dont have the newest software. You can get it from Garmin for free Search "webupdater"  Install the webupdater program on your computer, Update your gps software and then when that's done you have to check "Proceed to look for additional updates such as voice updates." Then towards the top you will see the update for traffic receiver, you DON'T need the one for MSN only the GTM Update. Put a check next to it and update your gps. If you don't see the update then you should already have it.

ALSO it is very easy to look in the wrong place for the subscription info because there are two places that have the traffic Icon on your gps, the first (easiest) one to find IS NOT where the subscription info is. If you see " No traffic data available" you ARE NOT at the right place. Click "Settings" and then scroll down to the yellow traffic Icon it is there that the subscription info is and at the bottom you will see "add" that is only for adding more subscriptions for other countries and such. ALSO you can update your gps without even having the traffic receiver plugged in but you will not actually see the traffic icons until its plugged in, its all automatic and installs itself when you plug it in. I've sold hundreds of these traffic receivers, I test them twice before shipping. If its not working then its a problem with software as mentioned above or a problem with your GPS or the cradle(rare). Email Id be happy to work with you to figure it out or refund your money if its not going to work for you. NO need to open a case or send me NASTY emails or threaten me. I know my product well and as I mentioned will be happy to get any problem your having taken care of you just need to contact me and let me know .

I recently got to use one of these on my trip to Florida. Where I live is very rural so I hadn't got to use one before. This traffic receiver saved me hours of bumper to bumper traffic on the expressway. How it works is when a traffic slow down is ahead a yellow sign pops up and shows you how much of a delay it will be. If its a small delay it will give you the option of avoiding the traffic. If its a longer delay it will automatically change your route to avoid the backup. At first I didn't follow the directions. I stayed on the expressway because  traffic was moving along well. I kept ignoring the prompts to get off expressway. Sure enough about five minutes up the road I was in bumper to bumper traffic. I took next exit when I finally got up to it and followed prompts and was soon back on the expressway farther up and moving along well again. In Greensboro North Carolina there were literally five backups on the screen at one time, some as long as 35 minutes and it routed me right around all of the traffic backups with zero problems. I cant imagine traveling without one of these now, Im impressed!

Heres some information about it:

The gtm 20 is a integrated FM TMC(Traffic Message Control) traffic receiver, 12v power source and FM antenna. It receives FM signal where available and alerts you of traffic tie ups ahead , like construction, accidents, police, emergency or other slow downs so you can monitor traffic flow and if necessary, avoid traffic tie ups. You will receive real time traffic data in most metropolitan areas(which is continually growing). The TMC broadcast are continuous so you can make your decision sooner. The system alerts you of a traffic problem on your route and proposes and alternate route to avoid the incident. The fm signal it receives is silent so you can still listen to your radio with no interference from incoming traffic data transmissions.

Avoid Traffic Tie-ups

The GTM 20 provides North America traffic information to compatible Garmin GPS navigators. Using this data, your device alerts you to local traffic tie-ups and displays current traffic levels. The receiver also acts as an in-vehicle power charger.

Question & Answer Answered On
Q:  Is there any way to verify the lifetime subscription on this receiver? Tom Apr-21-10
A:  Yes. You just plug it into your compatible Garmin gps and a yellow traffic signal will appear in your "settings" page. Click on it and it says "lifetime subscription". The traffic receivers without a lifetime subscription will say "expired" or it will give you a date that subscription will end. There will be another yellow traffic icon before you get to the settings page. That icon only tells you if the area your in has FM traffic signal or not. So if the icon you click says no service your at the wrong spot and you need to back out and click "settings". Thanks Good question

Q: How do I use it?

A:There are a couple different ways to use it. If your routing yourself anywhere its all automatic, your map screen looks normal until a traffic delay on your route comes up. If its a long delay it will automatically reroute you, if its  small delay a yellow icon will pop up on main map screen as I mentioned in the auction. You can click on that yellow icon that pops up and it will give you the option to reroute. If your just driving around not inroute to anywhere you can at any time your in traffic signal area click on the yellow traffic icon in settings. If there is no traffic signal it will say "no traffic data available" but if you do have signal it will show you a grayed out map of the area and all the traffic slowdowns will be marked on that grayed out screen either yellow or red or icons. You will defiantly see the traffic that's listed. Thanks Steve
