High quality antique French copper saute pan

Stamped with maker's name 'Philbert 3 r st. Marc' and the original chef's name, which looks like 'Heathenee' . The surface was originally hammered but this has worn very low over the years.

Measuring approx. 23cm diameter x 6cm deep and weighing 2.5kg, the pan is tin lined and the cast iron handle is firmly fixed with three copper rivets. The rim is approx. 3mm thick.

This impressive pan has seen many years of use in a professional kitchen and has the knocks and wear to show this. The base is not quite flat so it rocks slightly on the surface top, but does not tip. It has some light dings and is slightly out of round. It has probably been retinned at some point as there are signs of drips around the top edge.

The tin lining is darker grey which happens normally through use. There is no copper showing through.

These 'Philbert' pans are not easy to come across so this is a great find. With care, it will give many more years of service.

Suitable for use or decoration, this super pan would make a wonderful addition to any kitchen copper collection for that rustic French look.
