This auction is for a vintage hand painted metal figural inkwell in the shape of a dog sitting on a tree trunk. I believe the piece was made in the early 1900's in Germany by the Heyde company. The dog is solid metal, the tree trunk is heavily cast in metal. It is hinged at the back of the trunk. The trunk measures about 2 1/8 inches across the average part of the bottom. It is about 3 inches to the top of the dogs back. There is a glass insert, but I don't know if it's original. Heyde made a large number of these spelter figural inkwells, as well as match holders, still banks, ash trays, and other desk accessories and whimsical figures called "Nippes" (in addition to their famous soldier sets). I'm not aware that they ever put a makers mark on their pieces. To identify them I use a combination of the books with coverage (Old German Toy Soldiers, Mit Heyde Um Die Welt, and Heyde Hunters), pictures from the original catalogs, and talking with other collectors.  I could not find this particular figure, but it has the whimsical nature, casting style, and detail of a fine Heyde piece. In the last picture I show this piece with a 2 inch tall soldier figure for size perspective comparison - that soldier is not included in this auction. Please see my eBay store for more vintage animal and soldier figures, model cannons, out of print books on vintage toys, and more.

Payment:   All buyers, per eBay policy I can only accept PayPal as a payment method for all auctions. Payment is due within 4 days from the end of the auction. After that the automated eBay unpaid assistant takes over. If you need more time just let me know.

Handling time: I do my best to mail packages out the day after I get payment. If I receive payment before 9:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time (U.S.) I will have it in the mail the next day, except for Sunday because U.S. Post Offices are not open on Sunday.

U.S. Shipping: I use First Class (up to 13 oz) and Priority mail after that. Books ship media mail. I only charge actual postage - no added fees. I combine multiple items won by the same person the same week and charge actual postage.  I use lots of bubble wrap and peanuts and good boxes. In a group of multiple pieces each item is wrapped individually.  When there is an original box or other original paper item I put that into a plastic bag in case you get delivery on a rainy day.

International Shipping: I gladly ship international. I prefer to use Priority International mail because it is trackable. All Priority Packages are fully guaranteed.  First Class International is available, but there is no tracking on First Class International packages. Also, please note that there can be lengthy delays at Customs. Per eBay rules, import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges -- these charges are the buyer's responsibility.

Return Policy:  Returns are accepted within 30 days, so long as item is returned in the condition that it was in when it was sold. If the item was misrepresented I will refund the postage both ways. If the item was not misrepresented, I will refund the purchase price only -- not the shipping paid to get it to you, or for you to return it. I use a loupe to examine the toys while I'm listing them, and I try and mention the significant condition issues that I can see. I value my eBay reputation and I am not knowingly going to put out false or misleading info on a toy -- if I'm wrong about a fact about the toy I'll refund your money.

I leave feedback, so please do the same. If there is any problem with the item, contact me first, before leaving feedback, and we’ll work it out.
