A little bit of general information regarding the SS Amerika

The Amerika was built by Harland & Wolf (Belfast) for the Hamburg - American Line and was launched in 1905 and had a long and very interesting service. In 1912 she rammed and sank the British submarine "B2" in the English Channel. Early in W.W.I. In 1914 she was interned in Boston and in 1917 was handed over to the U.S. Navy to be used as a troop transport between U.S.A. and France. In 1918 she collided with the British steamer "Instructor" and later that year (now renamed "America") sank at her berth in New York. After being raised and repaired, she continued in service being used in several roles including as a troop ship during W.W.2. She was eventually scrapped in 1958.
