This is a handmade top button click action ball point pen made by Placid Crafts. Yes, this pen is made from a Solid Copper Rod. The Hardware on these pens is Gun Metal. The rod is cut to length, drilled out and a brass tube glued in. From there it is turned in a metal lathe to shape and fit and sanded and polished. The pen is 5-1/2" long. I would consider this a standard diameter pen because the pen body is .440 and both the top and bottom are Hex (Nut Shaped). I call this the Mechanics Pen because it looks like you need a 7/16" wrench to take this pen apart..... but you don't..... With the copper pen body this pen weighs 1.7 oz. The raw copper pen body is very unique and not like the standard pen blanks that you buy. This pen body is RAW Copper, It has no lacquer, sealer, or acrylic covering. This pen will Patina as raw copper will. New as it is, it is shinny. Copper is a soft metal and will scuff up, scratch, and age as raw copper. It will take on an antique look as it ages. / Pen #057

Patina is a Progressive Process, Not a Finish... THE FINISH IS RAW COPPER ........it will not stay shinny as it comes unless you clean it from time to time. if you get more patina than you like simply clean the pen with some Never Dull and start over. This is not sold as a patina pen. The finish is raw copper, and Patina is a process that WILL happen to this pen. We have buyers that are disappointed if the pen comes like new (less patina) because they like the patina, other buyers are disappointed if the pen comes with more patina than pictured. Yet others say they like the way it came but just keeps getting darker..... Yes, it is a process. Personally I love the patina.

This is a click action pen with a top button and uses the Parker style ink refill. This pen comes with a Fisher Space Pen SPR Series Pressurized Black Ink/ Medium Point ink Cartridge installed. It will take Parker inks and Gels, or the Fisher SPR series refills. To change the ink it unscrew the pen tip and then the ink cartridge pulls out. This pen uses the Parker style ink refill so we used a Fisher Space Pen SPR Series Pressurized Black Ink / Medium Point ink Cartridge. It will take Parker inks and Gels, or the Fisher SPR series refills. This refill was developed for NASA and has been used on EVERY Space Shuttle mission both American and Russian. They are hermetically sealed with a specially formulated thixotropic ink and pressurized to about 35 PSI. Things you should know about hand made pens
►Making the Pens: So that you may better understand the process involved in making a pen by hand the following information will explain the process. The pen blanks start as blocks approximately 3/4" X 3/4" X 5" some smaller and some larger, and must put in a lathe and have a hole drilled to the proper size, trimmed to length, then a brass tube gets pressed into the blank to house the transmission. Then back into the lathe to have the outside turned to accept all the hardware, then sealed and polished to achieve a quality finish. All of these procedures require very precise tolerances to be made. A handmade pen from a craftsman's lathe is a real thing of beauty. You would not believe the weight and feel of these pens in contrast to production run pens. The beauty of these pens and the feel of them cannot be fully appreciated in pictures. When we sell these in a person-to-person environment they outsell other pens in their price group. We hope that you will enjoy these pens as much as we do.
►The Hardware: Handmade pens are made from manufactured hardware and sold through several companies. The hardware is put into kits so that all the parts work together to make the pen look good and function properly. There is a transmission in the pen to advance and detract the tip with the twist or click. A cheap transmission can ruin a good pen. Many kits look alike but are made by different companies, some are quality and some, not so much. We will not use second rate kits to save a few bucks. These kits come in a variety of finishes and price ranges. There is painted hardware, gold colored, antique copper, chrome, brushed chrome, and satin chrome. Then there are precious metals like, 22ct. gold, 24ct. gold, gold titanium nitride, black titanium nitride, rhodium and platinum. These Precious metals make the pen more expensive obviously. About Fisher Space Pen
Fisher Space Pen is yet another great breakthrough from space research. No other pen has so much to offer. This pen was designed in 1965 by Paul C. Fisher, for NASA, and with no cost to NASA or our government. Ordinary pens rely on gravity to write. Hold them up-side down and they quit.
