Snow socks work by sticking to the snow in the same way as snow sticks very well to woollen clothing. 

They are also the easiest snow traction aid to fit, simply pull the socks over the top half of the tyre, drive carefully forward and pull over the remainder of the tyre.  Whilst travelling, the socks will centre themselves on the tyre and the webbing straps keep the socks for getting near the steering of brakes.
