Did You Know: Donna's Rush precious opal field was found in South Australia about 40 Kilometres north of Coober Pedy on the 24th August 2011.
Coober Pedy is a town in northern South Australia with a population of 3,500. The town is Known as the opal capital of the world because of the Quality of precious opal that is mined there. Opal was first found in Coober Pedy on the 1st February 1915 and since then has been supplying the world with the majority of gem quality opal.
Faced with seasonal dust storms and temperature's that reach above 110 degree's about half the population that live in Coober Pedy live underground.
