Rarely seen on the market, this is a genuine SHANG Dynasty (c. 1523-1028 BC) large deep pottery bowl. It has been decorated by impressing textiles into the clay before it was fired. Below the rim the textile impression has a fine weave, while for the rest of the vessel a broader textile was used. This results in a nice two-tone effect.

It is intact with only two tiny chips under the rim. This is exceptional condition for a pot of this type which was relatively low-fired.  Good root marks.

Although the bowl has a round base it will display without the need for a stand.

Height 20 cms; Width 24 cms.
