COMPLICATED TOY LINE TIMELINE
WWE/WWF action figures are detailed figures based on specific wrestling superstars.

LJN ERA 1984-1989
With the rise in popularity that the wrestling industry experienced during the 1980s, LJN was contracted to produce the first wrestling action figures in 1984. These were made of solid rubber and were very accurate in appearance to their real life counterparts, however they did not have any articulation. The figures stood at 8" tall. In 1989 LJN closed its toy division, and the WWF contract was awarded to Hasbro.

HASBRO ERA 1990-1995
Though not fully articulated, had various spring-loaded action features such as punches and clotheslines.

JAKKS-PACIFIC ERA 1996-2009
Production of figures by the Jakks Pacific corporation began in 1996, and ended in December 2009. These often featured some of the most articulated action figures of any toy line.  Jakks also produced a line of figures known as classic super stars with a line dedicated exclusively to legendary wrestlers from the 60s 70s 80s and 90s. Jakks Pacific's license expired with the WWE in 2009.

MATTEL ERA 2010-2015
Mattel took over production of WWE action figures. The new line-up was introduced on January 1, 2010.

JAKKS-PACIFIC ERA 2 2016-
In September 2015, WWE announced a new partnership with Jakks Pacific in which new figures are to be released in 2016.

The new figures I have listed are almost exclusively Jakks from the late 90's early 2000's.
