Stunning 1965 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback, restored and ready for action!

Visit: https://www.timberelegance.com/65-mustang-fastback for many more pictures of this car!

Turning 52 this fall, this fastback has never looked better; the Mustang 2+2’s are the cars that started it all. These fastbacks are extremely desirable in today’s market when found in this condition. Recent full restoration on this fastback has made it a beautiful car that not only turns heads and attracts a lot of attention, but consistently wins “best of” trophies when shown. This car can be seen in the movie “The last of the Manson Girls” where even on the set with many other classics people were drawn to check out this beautiful car.

This Fastback starts, stops, and runs beautifully! A lot of time has been put into this car and it shows. Your biggest problem will be people driving in your blind spot to look at the car, or asking to get their picture taken with the car when you’re filling gas.

A lot has been done to this car; I will try to sum up the highlights and cover common questions. If you have a specific question feel free to contact me and if needed we can discuss over the phone (I prefer not to post my # on the internet).

Body:

What will stand out is the body of this car is excellently restored with an outstanding paint job in Rangoon red winning a “Best Paint” trophy at a recent show. This car shines with a mirror gloss that is simply a stunning visual as seen in the pictures reflecting everything around it. That said there are a couple very small nick’s one can find if you look hard enough. The antenna has been frenched in with an electric motor operated from the console, giving the car a seamless sleeker look. The custom exhaust is routed out the rear valance GT style with chrome tips and resonators to complete the styling.

The undercarriage is rust free with a black undercoating. Window glass is flawless with new seals and chrome. New Cragar style wheels with Cooper Cobra white letter tires have about 500 miles on them; however the muscular stance of the car with these wider tires does rub a bit on the right front when turning hard.

New chrome all around looks sharp and complements the excellent paint job well. The mach 1 hood scoop works well with the aggressive look. Shelby hood pins and bullet side mirrors are integrated flawlessly and the Shelby style grill adds to the look. The grill corral will be included as well if you prefer that styling.

This Mustang never spends a night outside of its climate controlled garage under its cozy cover. It doesn’t go out in the rain, sleet, or snow to invite rust into its life.

Interior:

The interior has been completely redone and is in great condition. The gauge cluster has been upgraded to a 65 GT cluster with the correct original matching glove box door. The original rally pac is mounted and works, however it is not connected as it is not compatible with the upgraded electronics. The original AM radio looks great and works, but it’s for show as mounted in the glove box out of sight is a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/MP3 player connected to Alpine speakers in the quarter panels.

The original center console looks great with the new carpet and Mustang floor mats, under that the sound proofing helps the car sound solid. The seats are re-covered and have lap seat belts. New door panels and components look sharp. The original louvers are cool and functional.

If you prefer the original sweep speedometer it’s an easy swap and I’ll include it along with the correct matching glove box door.

Mechanical:

The engine is a modified 1968 “J” code 302 HiPo with a nice mild cam that sounds great at idle, shaved heads to gain compression, new valve job, and heavy springs. A 4 barrel Demon 650 carburetor combined with a Weiand Stealth intake manifold, and topped off with a K&N air cleaner help this car perform very well. A new Scott Drake chrome water pump, chrome alternator, chrome oil pan, chrome valve covers and air cleaner work great and look even better, this car is as impressive under the hood as it is on the outside. There is a minor leak from the oil drain plug that will be corrected the next time the oil is changed by replacing the gasket.

Electrical upgrades include a new Pertronix ignition system with billet Ignitor III distributor, and Flame Thrower II ignition coil. A new Interstate battery completes the package for a reliable starting car.

The car has a C-4 automatic transmission with a performance shift kit. The power steering works great and has had its components repaired and upgraded. The brake system was upgraded to power brakes and dual cylinders works well. The emergency brake has been repaired with new brackets and associated components.

A new fuel tank, sending unit, fuel pump, visible filter, and fuel pressure gauge ensure the engine gets its fuel efficiently.

Dual Cherry Bomb glasspack mufflers disturb the peace quite nicely, it never gets old hearing people come up to tell you how great it sounds.
