High Resistance Set for Dark Sounding Guitars

This is a brand new set of CTS 500K audio taper short shaft pots. These are not for production Les Paul-type guitars with thicker carved tops, these will fit Gibson Historic Les Pauls. These are brand new as pictured. Pots may have brass colored bushings and tops instead of the silver shown in the photo, same pots regardless.

These sets are matched so all pots are at least 550K and not more than 5% maximum variance across the set. Standard sets are only +/- 15 % and can range from 425 - 575K, a 30% possible variance. These are a high resistance set and are best used for hot or dark sounding P90s or humbucking pickups on guitars that are sounding dull, muddy, or dark. The higher resistance will boost the pickup's resonance peak and output, which will result in increased clarity and presence. Not recommended for super bright pickups/guitars.

These work on tons of different guitars, typically with humbucker pickups or P90 pickups. The hole size requirement is 3/8", the split shaft are fine knurled for US spec knobs, the threaded portion of the shaft is 3/8" (otherwise known as "short-shaft"), which works for virtually all hollowbodies as well as solid bodies without thick carved tops and through-pickguard top routes.

Any humbucker or P90 guitar I buy, first thing I do is change the pots to these if they don't already have them (they generally don't). Huh?

Older Historics used to come with 500K Linear taper pots with cheap plastic insides. Unfortunately, human ears don't hear linearly, so if the knob is on zero, it seems almost full-volume by the time its turned to "3". WIth audio taper, the volume increases gradually through the whole taper of the pot, much more natural sounding. But if your guitar came with 300K pots, which is still very common, then you're in for a treat. The additional load on the pickups will bring your guitar sound to life. More output, clearer high end, sound comes alive.

These are the de-facto standard in guitar pots, best quality out there. For guitars with cheap, import pots, this is a must-have upgrade. As with most upgrades, its the simple stuff that has the most impact, and this is no exception. Won't be disappointed.
