A Walter Moorcroft "Yellow Anemone" Vase, c. 1947-53 This lovely squat ginger jar shaped vase is crackle glazed a rich shade of yellow graduating down to an olive green base. The same olive green glaze decorates the interior. The vase is further decorated below the neck with a wide band of tube-lined anemones in rich hues of red, purple and blue with tube-lined olive green foliage. This signature Moorcroft technique adds depth and dimension to the floral designs. The vase is finished with a raised, flat rounded olive green base. Moorcroft is a family-run English pottery, famous for their Arts and Crafts influenced designs. William Moorcraft began his career as a ceramicist for James McIntyre in 1897. His designs were so popular he founded his own factory in 1913. His son, Walter Moorcroft took over the firm in 1945. Moorcroft pottery was sold at Liberty's of London, who had a concern in the business until 1962. This beautiful and unusual Moorcroft vase would make a welcome addition to a fine collection of Moorcroft or a lovely accent piece in an Arts and Crafts style room.
