DESCRIPTION

Minton Majolica game pie dish with liner which features a hare, mallard and blackbird on a bed of fern and oak leaves. Colouration: green, brown, turquoise, are predominant. The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, '603'. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1871. Book reference not found.

CONDITION

Cover: Good. No restoration. Small flake to blackbird's wing. KILN EFFECTS: glaze miss to the mallard's wing; kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the ground; stilt marks to the underside. Liner: Good. No restoration. KILN EFFECTS: a few stains on rim and interior; craze lines to the interior; firing hole to exterior. Dish: Good. No restoration. Slight wear to rim. KILN EFFECTS: Flecks of stray coloured glaze to the interior.
