The poet Tennyson once referred to Canada as "the true North", not in the sense of real or false but as loyal and faithful. In 1990, Canada sent a squadron of RCAF CF-18 Hornets to the Persian Gulf to support the Allied effort in Operation Desert Storm, and the Canadians conducted air strikes on Iraqi forces in conjunction with their American and British cousins. These missions provided their pilots with their first combat experience since WW2. The daring CF-18 Hornet pilots were issued Gentex 411 "bone dome" flight helmets, which were specially designed and produced only for the Royal Canadian Air Force. This Canadian RCAF Gulf War Desert Storm CF-18 HORNET PILOT GENTEX 411 FLIGHT HELMET is in good condition, with the visor pull down screw knob missing, making the visor difficult to adjust,
the brown rubber edge rim starting to separate from the helmet body at the lower right back, a circular area of dark soiling at the lower back right crown, some brownish soiling at the right crown, a small scuffed raise in the tape pattern at the top of the crown, a rectangular dark outline at the lower middle back where a name strip appears to have once been, a small contrived hole at the outer left ear, a small piece of white rubber residue at the lower outer right ear, a bit of dark soiling to the attachment snaps leather backing at each side of the front, some scattered dark scratching and soiling around the exterior, and with some overall use and age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough white "bone dome" construction. It's a single visor helmet, sports the original clear visor, and is complete with the original matching white visor housing. Most interestingly, the helmet carries reflective tape applied in a "cruciform" design across the exterior crown. It features a soft red cotton flight helmet style interior suspension, and boasts the original snap closure chinstrap. The helmet sports the original hard plastic and black rubber padded ear cups, bears the original brown rubber edge rim, and is complete with all of the original interior padding. It's a Size Small, carries the original "GENTEX CORPORATION" maker's tag inside, and is a fine example of a rare, original Canadian RCAF Gulf War Desert Storm CF-18 HORNET PILOT GENTEX 411 FLIGHT HELMET. Now celebrating our 15th year on eBay.
