This is a stunning 1930's Chinese-style Silk Evening Gown. I believe it would have been worn at a soiree or a cocktail party. This dress was bought for my grandmother just before World War ii and, as far as I know, she hardly wore it at all. It has been stored away all this time and is in very good to excellent condition for its age.

It is heavyweight black silk satin. It can be worn either with or without the sash provided. It is fully lined with cream silk satin; the lining has some aging marks, including a small mark inside the left cuff, but the outside is in pristine condition. It is hand-finished and hand-embroidered, with a teal blue and silver stylised floral design.  It has the typical Chinese-style/pageboy collar and can be buttoned up to the neck or worn less formally, undone as far as you desire!

It is a petite fitting, being around a size 8 - 10, and 52 inches long, which is floor length on a person of around 5 feet tall. It is relatively high waisted and has sleeves of 15.5 inches, which are quite narrow at the top, flaring out to a lovely wide cuff. The cuffs are slanted, so that they hang straight when straight down.

It has 22 buttons down the front, which stop around 18 inches from the bottom, for ease of movement. The buttons are satin covered, and the loops into which the buttons fasten continue all the way down to the hem.

I could imagine this dress being worn at a society event, with Silk Oxford Bag trousers beneath or with stockings and heels. This is a beautiful gown, which is sure to attract attention!!
