Antique English Walnut & Cut Brass Desk Set C1860

This is a wonderful antique desk set comprising a brass bound ink stand with a matching stationery box and blotter, C1860 in date and bearing the engraved brass label of the eminent retailer Parkins & Gotto, of Oxford Street London.

All in beautiful figured walnut with wonderful cut brass decorative mounts.

The ink stand with a small domed lidded compartment for stamps, cut brass decoration and the original pair of cut glass inkwells.

There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector.

In excellent condition having been beautifully restored in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

Parkins & Gotto

William Parkins and Henry Jenkin Gotto established Parkins & Gotto at 2, Hanway Street, Oxford Street, London in the 1840s. In the 1850s the company moved to 23 & 25, Oxford Street and were noted for carrying a huge variety of high quality stock.

In 1892, the firm was passed on to Henry Gaisford Gotto who entered the first marks 'HGG' at the London Assay Office. In 1894 Henry Gaisford Gotto passed away and the business continued under Christopher Lamb Gotto, who entered a second set of marks, 'CLG', at the London Assay Office.
