This  Lucille of Paris handbag is made of alligator, was made in the U.S.A., and was purchased at Bergdorf Goodman.  Lucille of Paris was known for their alligator and crocodile bags.  In fact, Abigail Rutherford, director of vintage couture and accessories at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago, mentioned Lucille of Paris when talking about high-end vintage handbags that also included Chanel, Hermes, and Gucci.  Lucille made bags for Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue during the 1950s and 1960s.

Lucille de Paris bags were created by Charles Hahn and his wife, Lucille. They founded the company in Paris during the 1930s and moved to New York City during the mid-1940s. They advertised in the The New York Times that they made their bags from American Alligators, and they even had the Alligator symbol as part of their logo.

They sold their bags at high-end stores. Princess Margaret was known to have purchased a Lucille de Paris bag at Saks Fifth Avenue. The company was very successful until 1969, when the use of alligator skins was banned, thereby forcing the end of production.

The interior is stamped Lucille of Paris on one side and Made in USA on the other.  There is a classic fabric Bergdorf Goodman tag.

The interior has one zippered pocket, one change pocket, and two open pockets.  There is an open pocket on both sides of this handbag.

The alligator is in good vintage condition with only some wear to the handles and the edges as shown in the last 4 photographs.  The metal hardware and the interior has only very minor wear.  Please examine the photos as they are part of the description.
