First published in 1938, this is a printing without date in simulated leather heavy
card stock covers of Fr. Stedman's pocket-sized illustrated Sunday Missal with
the Mass Calendar commencing with April 1951. A Larger Type Edition, with
Latin and English for the complete Ordinary of the Mass. Probably published in
very early 1951.
In clean, solid and very gently used condition.
Fr. Stedman (1898-1946) was a well-known author of Missals, Prayer books,
and Devotional literature and was for many years Chaplain to the Monastery
of the Precious Blood in Brooklyn and Director of the Confraternity of the
Precious Blood whose publishing apostolate saw his many works into print.
All Sunday Masses for the entire liturgical year are covered as well as Holy
Days, the Nuptial Mass and the Mass for the Dead. Brief Catechism review
at the end of each Mass. A concluding section of prayers, devotions, novenas,
the Rosary and the Way of the Cross follow the Missal proper.
No writing or stray marks to be found anywhere apart from the original owner's
name, address and date written in on the inside front cover. Pages are neat,
smooth and uncreased with the exception of four leaves with faint creases to
the corner edges. Covers are in good and clean condition and show only very
mild wear. Spine and binding are solid. Red-dyed page edges still bright with
some dulling and light spotting.
A lovely old-fashioned illustrated Sunday Missal from Fr. Stedman. In sturdy
and clean condition with signs of very gentle use. Handy enough to carry around
in one's breast pocket, this is a nifty illustrated Missal and prayer book in one
from the era of the Korean War.
