Burke & James Commercial 8x10 View Camera
w/ Wollensak Velostigmat 12" Focus Series II F4.5 lens

Up for sale is this vintage, classic 8x10 view camera from B & J.

The Burke & James 8x10 view cameras were very popular as studio portrait cameras in the mid and early 1900s. They yield spectacular contact prints that would make digital images cry like babies. This guy is still fully operable and can be used as intended, or would make a great restoration project as well. From what I understand, beneath the standard B&J Grey paint lies beautiful maple wood. From those restored models that have removed all the paint, the camera's are real beauties.

The camera comes with a vintage, I believe 1920s era, Wollensak Velostigmat 12" lens F4.5 which is a great general purpose lens with a flat field

As you can see from the photos, the camera is in very good overall condition for its age. The bellows look great and have no noted light leaks. The ground glass has no cracks - a few small cosmetic marks in the fresnel. All normal movements seem to be working. Some writing on the base rails as shown in the photos. Some expected scuffs, scratches and marks on the frame and frame rails. Lens is very good. A few particles of dust. No fungus. A few light cosmetic marks on the barrel. Shutter is firing. Aperture opens and closes. If planning to use the camera, it would be best to have the shutter serviced to make sure it's timed properly as this one hasn't been used in years. Three 8x10 film holders are also included, with dark slides. Film holders are wood and have wear and some writing. Original carrying case is also included. Some marks and dents from use over the years. Latches are all operable.
