Minolta AF Maxxum/Sony Alpha

 135mm f/2.8

Prime Telephoto Lens

Crossed Xx’s

Mint Minus Condition

Take a look at this nice lens that I rarely have in the store – it’s my last in stock 135mm and it even has the Crossed "Xx" pattern from the early production run.

The Maxxum 135mm f/2.8 had a short run and ceased production in the late 1980’s while consumers moved towards zoom lenses. Today the move is back towards the higher optical quality provided by prime lenses, accelerated by the introduction of the DSLR and SLT, as well as the latest demand for fine optics on Sony full frame bodies.

As well, this is a first generation lens from the original Minolta run. It has the “Crossed Xx’s” logo that Exxon complained about and asked Minolta to change. (Or else!) So you get a little history with this lens and a more rare copy.

This is an Alpha mount lens. You will need an adapter to use it on E Mount cameras like the A5000/A6000, NEX and A7 series bodies.

The lens includes both caps in great condition.

On aps-c sensor digital, you’ve got a potent 200mm f/2.8 lens that is super compact, unlike those big white monsters made by Minolta. Some refer to this lens as the “Pocket Rocket” due to its diminutive size and potent reach.

This lens is in mint minus condition. (S/N 10105xx)  There is some very light wear to the grip and a few cosmetic surfaces upon very close inspection, just enough that you can tell this isn’t a new item. Under casual inspection the lens looks pretty fantastic. The softer retractable lens hood has some very light wear as well, but nothing of consequence, and commonly seen with this lens.

The glass is essentially pristine with no fungus inside or scratches. There are a couple of inconsequential tiny coating blemishes on the front element that you might not even notice without very close inspection and bright light, and a few dust specks inside the lens, also with no effect on image quality, but I report everything in my descriptions.

The aperture blades are clean and snappy. The mount looks new and the grip is clean and reconditioned, unlike so many lenses you see on eBay!

If you could ever call a lens “sexy”, this is the one. About double the length of a standard 50mm lens, it is small, lightweight and yet provides 135mm of telephoto with a maximum aperture of f2.8. Great for low light shooting and what a beautiful bokeh. It is sharp, the color reproduction is true…I simply can’t say enough about this lens. For a portrait lens, at this price you could do no better. I had one, sold it and had to get another – it has a permanent spot in my bag now and I’ve found it’s quite versatile, especially when traveling.
