About the American Silver Eagle Series

The American Silver Eagle (often abbreviated as “ASE” or “SAE”) is the primary silver bullion coin of the United States. It was first introduced in 1986 and has been produced continuously since. In total over 400 million pieces have been struck. It has a weight of one (1) troy ounce and a purity of .999 fine silver. Where Silver Eagles Are Made

Although standard bullion edition Silver Eagles do not display a mintmark, they are typically struck at the United States Mint at West Point NY. Due to heightened demand, some American Silver Eagles were struck at the San Francisco Mint between 2011 and 2014. The San Francisco coins look identical to their West Point counterparts.

American Silver Eagle Specifications

Each American Silver Eagle contains one (1) ounce of .999 fine silver. They have a diameter of 40.6 mm, a thickness of 2.98 mm, and a mass of 31.103 grams. The obverse design displays the famous Walking Liberty design featured on the 1916-1947 Half Dollar. Meanwhile, the reverse design shows an outstretched eagle protected by a shield.
