Original painting signed Alfred Zeller. Great looking vintage oil on board painting.

Alfred Zeller was a European-born and trained artist who became the studio partner of listed  Houston, Texas artist Chester Snowden.

Painting has not been cleaned and does have a few places where paint has rubbed off.  A frame will cover all rubs and damage along the edges. Unframed and measures 20 x30.

The following information about Alfred Zeller was found in the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art on microfilm regarding Chester Snowden:

"Alfred Zeller's first accepted drawing was a caricature for the New Orleans Picayune newspaper. He then drew a series of cartoon postal cards for a novelty store. When possible, the evenings were spent in illustrating ideas; and later Mr. Zeller began painting more seriously in oils.

Since 1964, Alfred Zeller and Chester Snowden have worked together in their 1310 Art Studio and exhibited at numerous places. Zeller won the Purchase Prize at Weimer, Texas in 1968 and other prizes elsewhere."

Alfred Zeller is believed to be the son of portrait painter, Rudolph Jacob Zeller. In 1938, Alfred Zeller emigrated from Germany to Ecuador and later to Houston, Texas.
