David Bowie Ticket
BIOGRAPHY

DAVID BOWIE d2016. English rock musician actor record producer and arranger. A major figure for five decades in the world of popular music. Bowie is widely regarded as an innovator particularly for his work in the 1970s and is known for his distinctive voice and the intellectual depth of his work. Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in July 1969 when the song "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK singles chart. After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 as his alter-ego with his classic Ziggy Stardust LP and the hit single "Starman". In 1975 he achieved his first major American crossover success with the number-one single "Fame" co-written with John Lennon and the hit album Young Americans. The sound constituted a radical shift in style that initially alienated many of his UK devotees. He then confounded the expectations of both his record label and his American audiences by recording the minimalist album Low 1977 (the first of three collaborations with Brian Eno over the next two years). After uneven commercial success in the late 1970s Bowie had UK number ones with the 1980 single "Ashes to Ashes" and with Queen for the 1981 UK chart-topping single "Under Pressure". He then reached a new commercial peak in 1983 with the album Lets Dance which yielded several hit singles .Throughout the 1990s and 2000s Bowie continued to experiment with many musical styles. In the BBC's 2002 poll of the 100 Greatest Britons David Bowie was placed at number 29. Throughout his career he has sold an estimated 136 million albums. In the United Kingdom he has been awarded nine Platinum album certifications (eleven Gold and eight Silver) and in the United States (five Platinum and seven Gold certifications). In 2004 Rolling Stone ranked him 39th on their list of the "100 Greatest Rock Artists of All Time" and 23rd on their list of the best singers of all-time. On 10th January 2016 two days after his 69th birthday and the release of the album Blackstar David Bowie died from liver cancer at his New York apartment. He had been diagnosed 18 months earlier but news of his illness had not been made public ....

CERTIFICATION & PROVENANCE

Ziggy Stardust was released in June 1972. Following this tickets for Bowie’s UK tour started to sell in larger numbers resulting in larger venues being booked and becoming sold out during the Summer of 1972. After a short break the tour began again with a defining show at the Rainbow Theatre London on 19th August. Following this “Ziggy-Hysteria” began to grow with fans wearing make-up and mimicking his image. During September 1972 the tour went to the USA for 26 dates returning to the UK for a few concerts running from late December to early January 1973. In February 1973 Bowie successfully returned to the US. Then from February through to July 1973 what became known as "The Aladdin Sane Tour" (to support the release of the album Aladdin Sane in April 1973) preceeded another visit to the US & Asia before making a triumphant return to the UK from 12th May 1973 (Earls Court) right through to that now infamous final Ziggy Show at the London Hammersmith Odeon on July 3rd 1973. This was the second of two consecutive nights he played at this venue.
