Original Civil War Enfield Saber bayonet with leather scabbard. These English Enfield model 1856 saber bayonets were imported during the war for use with the Enfield Rifles. This one has no English markings and was intended to be exported to the states. English War dept. sabers would have the crown or English markings. No U.S. Militia markings so probably issued to a volunteer unit. Marked on cross guard D28 to match bayonet with rifle. This one is solid in all aspects and displays well. The saber is 28 inches in length with only some light corrosion to the blade. The handle is complete with only a few small chips to leather on one side. The scabbard measures 23 3/4" inches long showing some wear to the leather but in very good condition. The blade measures 22 5/8" long and was never sharpened to a fine edge. Please ask questions.
