MODEL DESCRIPTION: Victorinox launched their SwissMemory line in 2006: it was basically a Signature Lite knife with some extra space for a flash memory stick. The first versions came with 64, 128, 256 or 512 megabytes, with list prices between $56 and $157. They were very popular as a convenient way to transport data, but unfortunately were frequently confiscated at airports.  Some frantic travelers remembered to at least keep the flash stick with their data, and some didn't.

Victorinox replaced the original SwissMemory with thinner versions, and tried a few other tool combinations (most of them bladeless and acceptable for air travel).  However, the price of flash memory constantly plummeted.  Great for most of us, but very unprofitable for Victorinox and its retailers, who had to buy the SSD sticks high and sell low.  Victorinox entirely abandoned the SwissMemory/SwissBit models in 2013.  It's too bad, because they are extremely handy.

SIZE NOTE:  This is the original version of the SwissBit, designed for the original, thicker flash sticks (7mm / 1/4").  Starting about 2011 Victorinox switched to a thinner flash memory stick (3mm / 1/8").  The newer sticks will fit in this knife, but with excess space.  In fact, you can fit two of the newer drives side-by-side in this one!

SwissMemory/ SwissBit knives are keychain-size Victorinox Swiss Army knives (2 1/4" / 54mm) that contain the following tools:
  • Small blade
  • Nail file
  • Scissors
  • Red LED flashlight
  • Ballpoint pen (retractable)
  • Slot for SSD memory stick (not included)
  • Key Ring
