This auction is for two 1930's era vintage crosscut handsaws, both etched on the blade: SHEFFIELD SAW WORKS - PHENIX - NO. 48 SHIP POINT - SPECIAL STEEL - WARRANTED - PATENT TEMPERED - PATENT GROUND - INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - MADE IN U.S.A. - E.C. ATKINS AND COMPANY - PROPRIETORS - and one is marked: 5 - and the other is marked 9. The medallions are marked: WARRANTED SUPERIOR - These rare saws are in excellent used condition with no damages and appearing just lightly and or barely used if at all showing what looks like mostly just tool box storage wear. The blades are straight and the teeth are sharp and do not appear to have any after factory sharpening. The handles show little tiny nicks and scratches in the original varnish and each has an X on the backside and the blades have some small minor blemishes but show mostly the original special steel shiny finish. The etching on the 5 ppi is near perfect and the other is just a little faded. These are skewback saws with blades that measure 26 1/4" long, 1 3/4" at the small end and each one weighs 1 lb. 9 ozs.
