Description
A French burr walnut wood correspondence box dating around 1860. It has laquered brass mounts which have aged and darkened as you can see. There are two slots for answered and unanswered notes. The interior has a central divide and is finished in red fabric which is likely original, the felt to the base looks to be later. A well used example, but certainly has style and charm..
Condition
The locking catch plate is missing, so the box cannot be locked. Brass has patinated under the lacquer. Some losses of veneer around the edges. Well used and worn interior.
