Carroll Shelby first learned of the availability of a souped-up 428 "Cobra Jet" motor, he decided to drop one into the confines of the GT500's engine compartment and designate it as the "GT500KR...KR" meaning King of the Road.

With its conservatively rated 335 horsepower CJ428, this was undoubtedly the most powerful Shelby available in 1968.
