The History

This beautiful piece comes from the Art Deco Era! The Art Deco Era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period.

During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.

Lavalieres are necklaces that included a chain or small link necklace, fairly long, that terminates in a single large pendant or tassel, which in turn often has additional pendants or tassels dangling from it; though named for a mistress of Louis XIV, the style is usually associated with turn-of-the-20th century jewelry, and remained popular into the 1930s.

Rose quartz beads dating back to 7000 BC have been found in the area once known as Mesopotamia (today’s Iraq). Rose quartz jewelry was known to be crafted by the Assyrians around 800-600 BC. The Assyrians, along with the Romans, might have been the first to use this stone.

People in the earliest recorded times believed in the magical powers of quartz. Ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Greek civilizations used quartz crystals as potent talismans. The Romans used rose quartz as a seal to signify ownership, and Egyptians believed the stone could prevent aging.

Wearing Rose Quartz jewelry or holding a piece of Rose Quartz in your hand, will bestow a peaceful and calming sensation that can assist in healing of the heart… by dissolving anger and resentment. In these stressful days we live in many of us are in need of emotional healing and relief from stress.

During the heyday of the Art Deco Era Marcasite jewelry was very popular during all the wild parties. Iron Pyrite would be hand Rose Cut into facets to create Marcasite. This stone was popular due to the way the light would catch these facets, even from across the room!

The necklace is marked "Sterling."

The Piece

The beautiful lavaliere necklace features 3 cabochon cut and polished Rose Quartz gemstones. The stones are a gorgeous clear, translucent color and hue. There are natural inclusions and matrices visible inside each stone. Each princess cut Rose Quartz is prong set. Throughout the pendants there are a total of 12 Marcasite stones.

The necklace and pendant are made of solid Sterling Silver and feature gorgeous Art Deco design work. The overall motif of the pendant reminds me of the outline of a shield or coat of arms. The silver work showcases an etched border as well as small silver bead accents throughout.

The necklace measures 16.5" long. The large focal pendant measures just shy of 1" tall by 7/8" wide. The large Rose Quartz measures 5/8" long by 1/2" tall. The smaller Rose Quartz stones measure 5/16" on all four sides. The paper clip link chain features a spring style clasp.

Antique and Vintage jewelry is disappearing at alarming rates. Unfortunately most of the jewelry from this time period has been lost or melted down over the years, please don't miss your chance to own this special piece of history!
