Planet Models 1/72 M22 Locust British Airborne Tank Model Kit 20 mm Scale
Ref : PLAMV103 Brand new and unbuilt. The M22 was designed in 1941 to provide a lightweight tank of 8 tons that could be transported either inside or beneath a transport aircraft. It had a crew of 3 with armour protection up to 25mm and a 37mm M6 main gun plus a 0.3cal machine gun. Following some hull modifications and removal of non essential fittings, the M22 was produced by Marmon-Herrington between March 1943 and February 1944 with 830 vehicles being built. The US never used the M22 given a lack of adequate transportation aircraft. However, a large number were supplied under Lend-Lease arrangements to the British where the Hamlicar glider, designed to carry the British Terrach, was capable of lifting the M22 - then designated the Locust. M22 Locust were deployed during the crossing of the Rhine by the 6th Airborne Division on 24th March 1945.
