BALL MANUFACTURER: Spalding BALL TYPE: Miniature Official National League PRESIDENT'S STAMP: Warren Giles BALL PRODUCTION DATES: Early 1950's COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is a miniature Official National League (Warren Giles) Baseball dating to the early 1950's which has been attached to a metal base to produce an interesting and attractive paper weight. The ball itself remains in good condition, though the vintage coating of shellac that was applied to it is starting to crack and flake a bit. Just enough of the original stamping on the ball remains to identify it as a Warren Giles ball (or, rather, its miniature equivalent), though curiously the Spalding logo stamped on the ball is their older 1890's style. The transformation from a novelty item/child's plaything to curiosity/desktop paraphernalia also appears to have been performed in the 1950's by means of simply drilling the screw shown on the weighted bottom up into the core of the ball itself, securely fastening it to the base. Functional, interesting, and possibly unique, this is one of a pair of such paperweights being offered (the other being its Reach/William Harridge counterpart, listed separately). Combined Shipping: I will gladly combine shipping on multiple lots to save you money. I typically send combined invoices for auction items following the end of each week's listings. If you have multiple Buy It Now purchases, just send me a note to let me know when you have finished making your purchases and I will send you a combined invoice with all of your shipping options. You should then make a SINGLE payment for all your purchases. Combined shipping is figured by taking the largest shipping amount for any of your items and adding an incremental amount for each additional item.
