Original a boater is a kind of men's formal summer hat. Boaters were popular as casual summer headgear in the late 19th and early 20th century, especially for boating or sailing, hence the name. The wide brim boater straw hat was also very popular for women during the 1920s, especially as the brim was dramatically extended to make it more fashionable. This is one of the most beautiful boater hat created ever for a "milady" - perfect to complete her beautiful sailor dress outfit.
It has been made of stiff sennit straw, ( this is the flexible braiding not the rigid one) and has a flat crown and medium wide brim, slightly elongated front and back giving a gently oval shape. A navy grosgrain ribbon is wrapped around the crown, rear is decorated with medium sized bow with ties and edge beautifully finished in matching navy trimming.
Beige grosgrain ribbon inside, which is in immaculate clean condition.
Standard one size - will be perfect for a medium to large head - circumference 22 - 24" or 56 - 61 cm. The condition of this ultra-rare hat is excellent, clean inside and out, with no damage and holds the Laura Ashley vintage label - Made in Great Britain.
The hat will be posted well/ safely wrapped in a cardboard box.
