Hier erfährt man die Band in ihrer Anfangsphase 1999. Da ist der Sound noch natürlich, die Grooves sind fluffig, alles ganz ungezwungen und relaxed. Orgelmann Neal Evans bedient die Tasten dass es nur so Spaß macht, seine bassline ist meistens präsent und groovy. Drummer Alan Evans rockt und hat es einfach in den Eiern. Gitarrist Eric Krasno ist auch eine akustische Freude, spielt allerdings nicht ganz so prägnant wie seine Bandgefährten. Am Ende des Albums stehen zwei Konzertaufnahmen, die belegen dass die Gruppe live ne echte Party ist. Zusammengefasst, Soulive überzeugen nicht unbedingt durch Perfektion, sondern eher weil ihnen der Jam aus Jazz, Funk und R&B so brilliant gelingt. Get Down ist ohne jegliche Einschränkungen und sehr zu empfehlen!

This album is also fantastic!!! Great sound of the Hammond B3, nice drumms and the funky guitarrist. Keep that way!

All I have to say is that this is one killer album. Just soul jams. And also to my knowledge, this cut was knocked out in one day! Man! This album is tight. The group works so well together. Any group who can get together one night and cut an album that same night perfectly, and produce products like this, is just meant to be together. Soulive is this example.

Sometime in 1999, Alan had a vision: a band, suits, vintage instruments, a group dedicated to live soul groove, infusing the music of Grant Green with the modern thump of hip-hop and R&B. He and his brother Neal moved in together and built a studio. Meanwhile, Eric was playing with the Boston-based funk band Lettuce. On March 1, Alan gave Eric a call and invited him up to record. The next day, Eric went up and cut 5 songs that became Soulive classics. Sometimes things happen like that. GET DOWN! got Soulive their first gigs and won them instant recognition from club owners and labels alike. It marks the explosive birth of a great band. GET DOWN! hasn’t been available to fans since the original 2,000 copy pressing sold out in 1999. With stylish old-school artwork, the Velour re-release of GET DOWN! also includes two live bonus tracks from the days when you could still catch Soulive in small clubs. The record is pure, high-energy live soul groove. Get down!
