Brand new and unbuilt. Ref : WW2G20005 The Raupenschlepper Ost or 'Crawling Tractor, East' was a fully tracked truck used as both a prime mover for smaller AT guns such as the PAK40 and as a tractor in it's own right for delivering supplies. It's name was more commonly abbreviated to RSO and it was designed in response to the poor performance of wheeled vehicles in the mud and snow of the Eastern front. The Pak 40 was the standard German anti-tank gun until the end of WWII, and was supplied by Germany to its allies. Captured Pak 40s were also used by the Russians. As well as being used as an anti tank gun with around 23,500 produced and another 6,000 being used to arm mobile tank destroyers such as the Marder, Hotchkiss and Sd Kfz 234/4 The box provides three sprues with identical parts to allow construction of 3 varaints listed below and include 16 crew figures and 75mm shells. There are parts for two RSO and 2 Pak40. These can be combined as tractors towing the guns or tractors mounting the guns. The RSO/01 had a pressed steel cab with a rounded shape and truck like configuration and comes with a rear canvas tilt. The RSO/03 was a drop sided wooded cab tractor with a square cab which has an open back. RSO chassis were converted to mount the 7.5cm Pak40/4 going into service with Army Group South. The basic wooden load platform of the RSO was used to mount the gun with the RSO cab replaced with a lightly armoured cab with folding top and open driving position. The wooden panels could then be lowered to provide a platform for the gunners. As with many self propelled guns, protection for the crew was extremely limited A cost effective alternative to Italeri and Armourfast fast assembly kits. Ideal for wargaming custom scenarios or just building for display this brand new kit is a beauty. Not to be missed.
