Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Omega timepiece, a full size SEAMASTER model (Ref. 14389-1) that dates to ca 1960. This black dial watch is excellent shape, featuring a solid stainless steel Omega Swiss case and a topnotch 268 caliber, manual wind mechanism. It is also a rarer example of a Seamaster with a sub-seconds dial versus the more common center sweep hand configuration.

Quadruple-signed, it measures a relatively larger 43.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 35.3mm in width (38mm with original Omega-signed winding crown). This works out to be shy of 1-3/4 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the Omega crown.  It is powered by its original and high quality Omega 268 caliber mechanism that’s been fully serviced by my watchmaker David just last week to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The black enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that’s been professionally restored. Features include a 60 minute white outer chapter, raised silver hour markers with luminous dots, original Lance-style hands with luminous fill (now a light gold color) and a crosshair style sub-seconds dial with ‘sweep’ original seconds hand.  Signed OMEGA SEAMASTER with raised silver Omega symbol below the 12 and SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.

The armored acrylic crystal is in excellent condition. The three-piece case is solid STAINLESS STEEL and is in excellent order with no wear, truly superb. The original Omega-signed notched stainless steel winding crown is excellent too, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I find that the screw-down back lid is in excellent, featuring a raised Seamaster logo that is very crisp.

Inside I find a rose gold finished manual wind mechanism signed Omega Swiss – 17 Jewels, [Cal.] 268. The serial number of #17,040,956 dates the watch to circa 1960 as per available Omega production records.

The inside of the case back is stamped OMEGA WATCH CO. 14389—1 , ACIER INOXYDABLE, FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE with small “compressor” logo.

This watch has been fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new 18mm black crocodile grain calf leather strap by deBeer, Paris with matching steel buckle. Whether it be a Seamaster, Speedmaster or Constellation all watch lovers need to have at least ONE Omega in his or her collection. If you have started with this beauty you have set the bar very HIGH for your next purchase!

  • Watch sizes: I provide exact case measurements in millimeters (the watch industry standard) and inches, and include a U.S. quarter in one photo as a size reference. Draw the measurements on a piece of paper to help visualize the watch on your wrist. Remember, men’s vintage watches are noticeably smaller than oversized timepieces you see today. Prefer a brown strap instead of black? For most men’s watches I can switch the color before mailing; just let me know.
