Wile 55 Grain Moisture Meter for Rice, Wheat, Corn, Rye, Barley, Sunflower, Soybean, Rye - Made in Finland.

Wile 55 is a basic tool for all farmers for measuring accurately the moisture of grain and seeds. The Wile 55 measures the moisture of grain and seeds rapidly and precisely. The Wile 55 is a proven design and it is the most popular moisture meter in the Wile range. The Wile moisture meter is sold in over 80 countries world wide.

Why is Wile better?

Wile portable moisture meters are a robust and reliable tool for grain moisture measurement. The measurement can be made from whole grain from a sample of a small volume.

The Wile meters are available for most commercially cultivated grains as well as for hay and silage up to 70% of moisture. With the WIle hay meters you can even measure loose hay before it has been baled.

The performance of the Wile meters has been verified by numerous test by the professional press. The accuracy and reliability of Wile is a result of a balanced design that is based on solid knowledge of moisture measurement and deep understanding of the measured materials from all over the world. In our own grain laboratory we test the target materials, do reference measurements and create scales for new sorts of materials as required by our customers.

We also understand the different basic measurement principles and we can apply them to create products that do what they promise.

We are specialised in portable devices for moisture measurement. This specialisation makes it possible to produce the market leading portable moisture meters with affordable prices.

Wile products use a capacitive measurement principle that uses a high frequency electric circuit and a compressed sample. This gives re producible results with high accuracy. All digital Wile models have also an automatic temperature compensation that is vital for the best results.

Based on the same measurement principle we have also developed a product range for hay and silage. No other hay meter can cover reliably the whole range of hay moisture from 10 to 70%.

No wonder that Wile is the most copied device on the market.

The story of Wile

The Wile grain moisture meter was originally created by the successful innovator and entrepreneur Matti Wilska in the early 1960:s. Prototypes were built during 1963 and 1964 and the actual production started at Optillinen Tehdas (”Optical Factory”) in 1965 under a license from Wilska. First patents are from the year 1965.

Wile is an acronym after names of two persons: Wi after Wilska himself and le after Leitzinger. Matti Wilska took assistance from patent office Leitzinger and the owner, Jorma Leitzinger wanted to include a part of his name to the product name as well.

We pronounce the name Wile like Wi in ”Wind” and le like in ”let"

The first Wile type was the Wile 49-22. The format of the device resembles closely today’s model even if the measurement principle has been refined in later products. The first Wile 49-22 was available for wheat, barley, oats, rye and canola. It was first tested by the Finnish state agricultural agency in 1965 and it received the German DLG approval in 1967. The first truly industrial device was the next version, the Wile 22A.

A true legend was created in 1970 when the Wile 35 was introduced. It was produced until 2006, for 36 years!

Wile moved to digital age in early 1980:s when the Wile 100 was introduced. It was in the program until 1986 when Wile production was moved to the newly founded Farmcomp. At this stage it was unfortunately no longer possible to produce some of the required fine mechanical parts with a reasonable price, so the product had to be discontinued. However, most of these devices are still in active use and very much liked by the users. Actually we have been unable to get one of them for our own collection...

The current digital meter generation saw daylight in 1990 when Wile 55 and 25 were introduced. They have undergone constant fine development and today Wile 55 is our best selling model. They were later followed by a range of Wile 6x models that have a text display and some additional features like temperature measurement with an additional probe.

Precise

Wile moisture meter has been proven by many test reports around the world to be one of the most accurate portable grain moisture meters on the market. The accuracy of the meter is based on a solid basic design that has been accomplished thru years of constant development and our deep understanding of grain moisture measurement in different crop growing areas. The Wile meters measurement method is based on measuring a high frequency alternate current that is conducted through the sample. The meter converts the measurement value into a moisture value by the help of a conversion scale which is programmed into the memory of the meter. Each grain type has their unique moisture characteristic which means that each grain type has its own scale. To achieve the best accuracy and repeatability level the grain sample has to be unified. In the Wile meter the grain sample is compressed to unify the sample, this makes the measurement extremely accurate compared to the open cell testers on the market.

Multi Functional

Wile 55 has the capability of testing 16 different grain or seed types that are stored in the memory of the meter. Farmcomp actively follows the development and breeding of new grain types and accordingly adjusts the scales that are used in the Wile moisture meters. When choosing the Wile moisture meter you can be certain that it will function properly in your farming environment. The Wile meter has also an arbitrary scale that gives a nominal measurement value. This is mainly used for calibrating the device and it can also be used for measuring grain types outside of the 16 pre-programmed types in the meters memory. This can be done by the help of conversion tables that are available for some of the most common grain types.

Easy to Use

Measuring with the Wile 55 is simple. After the correct grain type is selected measurement takes place by just pressing one button. The large digital display makes it easy to read the measurement value also in limited light conditions. To make everyday use easy the meter has a quick reference guide that is located on a sticker on the side of the display.

User Adjustable Correction

All of the Wile moisture meters are individually calibrated in temperature controlled conditions before they leave the factory in Finland. Over the years, due to heavy rain fall or draught, the electric quality of the grain may differ substantially from the reference grain. In these cases the user can make a correction to match the value of the results of a commercial grain elevator or preferably an oven test. The correction is temporary and it does not affect the basic scale programmed into the memory of the meter.

Automatic Temperature Compensation

The Wile 55 meter has two temperature sensors, one on the electronics cirquit board and one in the test cell of the meter. These sensors compensate the temperature difference of the sample and the meter itself correcting automatically the moisture value presented. This function ensures the best accuracy in grain moisture measurement.

Wile Service and Calibration

The service and calibration can be done by the importer of the Wile moisture meter or at the factory in Finland.

Grain Types that can be Measured

The Wile 55 has in its memory the most common grain types and it is specifically programmed for regional differences in grain varieties. In addition to the pre programmed grain types the Wile 55 can measure a large variety of grains and seeds with separate conversion tables.
