Continental School Antique Oil Painting, Genre Scene, 19th Century

CONTINENTAL SCHOOL ANTIQUE GENRE PAINTING
Late 19th Century, Unsigned
Item # 120009WOU16

This is a gorgeous little antique oil on canvas from the late 19th Century, featuring a couple walking along a cobble road with rolling hills in the background, a small river tumbling over a waterfall as a modest castle looms in the background.  The bright blue sky overhead casts an optimism about the piece, giving the overall subject a sense of cheer and allowing a certain amount of nostalgia for what was naturally a simpler time.  The painting is finely detailed, every aspect of the piece captured delicately with crisp strokes, bringing life to the hills and rocks, dwarfing the couple as they enjoy the landscape.

An absolute joy, this is an optimistic and affordable antique painting for anyone passionate about little nostalgic Genre scenes.  It is a tireless subject that will surely be enjoyed for a lifetime in that special space on the wall.
