About the Artist:  David James was born in London in 1944 and currently lives in Aldwick.  He attended Hampton School and was taught by Vic Mackenzie whose virtuosity covered every medium.  While studying A-levels, he attended weekend classes at Ealing Art School under John Drew.  David won the Senior Art Prize and after A-levels was offered a place at Twickenham Art School under the leadership of Osmund Caine, a leading British painter and stained-glass designer.

In 1964 he passed the Intermediate Diploma in Arts & Crafts, with wood-engraving as his specialist craft subject.  This was followed by the National Diploma in Design (NDD) in 1969.

At Twickenham, the emphasis was on drawing and painting both from life model and from natural plant forms, which greatly influenced David's future as a painter.  Whilst still at Twickenham he had started exhibiting and selling his paintings, and in 1969 Felix Rosenstiels published an early work (Low Water) as a full size reproduction.

David has exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Paris Salon, and a great number of provincial galleries in the UK.  In 1994, he exhibited in the successful Octet exhibition at the Hyde Park Gallery as well as being represented at several galleries overseas.  His works are in private collections worldwide from Iceland to Australia, and from Fiji to Alaska.
