Antique German Seethaler 800 Silver Tea/Coffee Pots Creamer Sugar & Tray late18th/early 19th century
Antique German, Augsburg 800 Silver tea/coffee serving set, the silver pieces decorated with applied heavy floral motif ornaments, each item stands on four bowl design feet, each feet separately screwed to the applied repousse floral silver frame. Each silver element crafted with lobed décor & heavy interior gilding. Based on the craftsmanship we believe that the silver set dates back to late 18th to early 19th century. Each element of décor made separately and attached with small nails & screws to the main objects. The tray designed with applied scrolling and shell like design. Handles attached with screws, the method which was used in the 18th century. This silver tea/coffee serving set presents an outstanding quality of legendary German silversmith. The articles crafted with the highest layer of interior silver-gilt I have ever possessed, each pot is clear, can & should be used by its owner. Please note, It is very easy to clean since a small human hand can get inside even of the tall coffee pot. Overall very good condition, with only minor/scattered dents due to its age & use, scattered scratches, only a few feet slightly dented. Every object stand securely on its feet. Some minor repair to the some bottom frame.
The following reference note taken from Sotheby’s Dr. Heller sale of fourth of December of 2012, London, lot 81 “Johann Alois Seethaler was born in Augsburg about 1775. He became a master goldsmith in 1796 and married a year later. He was appointed as silversmith to the Bavarian royal court, and died in 1835. His son, Joseph, who was baptized in 1799, followed his father’s profession, working as a manufacturer and dealer“.
