Vandoren cane is also referred to "Heckel cane" by the Dansr Corporation...the exclusive US importer & distributer of all Vandoren products (Vandoren does not sell directly from its plantations and ships only to wholesalers)
The VANDOREN Company of Paris has been in existence for over 100 years and has developed a reputation for extremely high quality and consistency. Although they have made their mark supplying single reed players with high quality reeds and mouthpieces, VANDOREN has also been quietly offering cane to double reed players for some time, but the prices have normally been prohibitive. Even today, the major double reed supply houses offer VANDOREN bassoon cane, but do so at the high end of their price line. I was recently able to obtain a huge quantity of VANDOREN tube cane at a very good price, and as a result, I am able to pass that savings on to you.
There is no middle man or subtractor here....all work is done personally by me, only using the finest tools & machinery available.
First the Vandoren tube cane is split. It is then cut to 120mm and pre-gouged on a Reeds'nStuff crank pre-gouger. Then the cane is gouged on the Rolls Royce of gougers, the Kunibert Michel. These machines are almost impossible to find in this country & very expensive - but are amazing in their ability to produce smooth and consistent gouges. Warped and damaged cane is discarded. Gouge thickness is 125-130mm(+/-3). However, 135mm, 125mm, & 120mm are also available upon request.
