This wonderful midcentury figural sterling cufflinks and tie tack set by Fenwick and Sailors features a classic convertible crank car that looks to me like a Model T.  They are highly detailed, down to their wire rim tires, raised headlights and upholstery.  Even the pedestal steering wheel is there (but where is the Ahooga horn?).  The features are strongly delineated and lightly oxidized (deliberately darkened) for color contrast, interest, depth and definition. 

What really makes these links is how animated the vehicles are.  The way they are angled, right front tires raised off the ground and turned to the right, conveys a lively feeling of motion as if they are not just toodling around, but really careening about.  (The effect is much greater in person than in the photos.)  You can almost see the puffs of dust in their wake.  If I can resist making car noises and screeching them around for a minute, I will give you the specs: 

All three pieces are signed, as shown in the penultimate photo, "F& S" with a copyright "C" and "Sterling" on the backs and the cufflinks are marked "Ster.Pat.2472958" on the findings, (vroom, vroom; putt, putt). 

Well made, the autos measure about 1-1/4" long by about 5/8" tall.  The set weighs 28.4 grams (including the tie tac's clutch, chain and bar, which may not be sterling and weighs 2.3 grams).

Fenwick and Sailors was a family jeweler that is well known for the high quality men's jewelry they manufactured in the Los Angeles area around the middle of the last century. 

Over a half century old, the set is in Very Good vintage condition, with surface dirt, scratches and some wear and/or tarnish to the finish.  They have a nice vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.  

Not just for antique car lovers (although they would be a sensation at a classic car show), this sharp looking vintage cuff links and tie tac set will make a  terrific addition to any collection of cufflinks, mid-century silver, sterling or automobile memorabilia.  They would make a fabulous gift, although I doubt you will want to part with them, and will come to you in a gift box, just in case.  Handsome and fun, these interesting links are a super conversation starter.  "Wanna' crank it up?"  "No?  Well, toodle-oo."  A wonderful set of signed sterling classic hand crank car cufflinks and tie tack to add to your collection of quality and distinction!
