Biography:
At the age of sixteen Gross won a scholarship to Birmginahm College Of Arts & Crafts where he studied from 1940-43 and from 1946-1949. Among his tutors were Bernard Fleetwood Walker RA and William Egginson - both inspirational teachers. His break in training was due to war service in the Navy. He benefitted from the classical art training of the day and won the Messenger Prize For Life Drawing.
On qualifying Peter spent the next 3 years studying ceramics at college as well as teaching part time. He started full time teaching in 1952 and was Head Of The Art Department at Tividale Comprehensive for 22 years until his retirement.
Throughtout his career Peter taught evening classes at the College Of Art with his students being very loyal and attended his classes for years sometimes.
In 1955 Peter was elected an associate of the RBSA becoming a full member in 1961. He was a council member for many years and was elected president in 1981. He also belonged to the Birmingham Art Circe and the Easel Club. These were very important to him as a form for discussion of members work and for sharing of ideas. He was very committed to all 3 societies and barely missed a meeting in 30 years.
In 2007 a commemorative exhibition of his work was held at the RBSA Gallery in St Pauls Sq Birmingham and the frontispiece for the 20 page colour catalogue is below, showing Peters self portrait.

Frames: Because of the fragile nature of picture frames, all frames are offered free with the painting. You are welcome to ask questions about the frame condition before buying but we cannot accept returns or requests for 'part refunds' because a frame arrives with some existing damage not sustained in transit.
