Item Description and Compatibility

Up for sale is an internal Hard Disk Drive/HDD and Solid State Drive/SSD mounting bracket for all Dell Inspiron 15R-5520 and 7520 laptops. Included with each unit are all four of the stubby, hard-to-find drive mounting screws. Please note that this is absolutely NOT a generic, aftermarket, 3rd-party knockoff - this is an original, genuine, Dell OEM hard drive caddy designed specifically for the 5520 and 7520. This caddy may possibly fit other Dell laptops, but full compatibility is only assured for these two systems and any use with any other laptop model is at the buyer's risk.

Item Condition

These Inspiron drive caddies/mounting brackets are guaranteed - and warranted for a full 30 days, see details below - to be in absolutely 100% perfect condition! The units are surplus inventory from a local Dell laptop repair facility, and before being listed on eBay, were thoroughly inspected and certified to be in flawless condition.

Warranty and Return Info

The 30-day warranty included with this drive caddy/mounting bracket only covers defects in the item itself, and is limited to...

  • Replacement of the part with one of similar type/quality if available,

  • Repair of the item by seller if possible, or

  • Refund of the actual item purchase price if a replacement is not available and repair is not possible.

Choice of remedy is at seller's discretion, and buyer is generally responsible for shipping fees. In addition, any warranty claim absolutely MUST be handled directly through the seller - replacement or repairs performed by the buyer or by a third party will not be reimbursed by the seller unless advanced, written approval was granted!

Additional warranty limitations - These may seem obvious, but here they are anyway...

  • This warranty does not cover damage caused by the installation of this item by someone unqualified to perform the work (a licensed computer repair facility or Dell-certified tech is certainly qualified; many average home hackers are not!).

  • This warranty does not cover damage caused by screw-ups like bent pins/connectors caused by mishandling the device,

  • This warranty does not cover damage caused by modifications to the device,

  • This warranty does not cover damage caused by out-of-spec use (e.g., over-clocking, over-volting, baking it in the summer sun, taking your laptop with you into the shower, etc.).

I accept "buyer's remorse" returns of items in some cases. The returned item must, of course, be in the exact same condition as when originally shipped, returns must be requested within 7 days of receipt of the item, and there will generally be a "restocking" fee of 18-20% of the total sale price including shipping. This fee covers the time and equipment necessary to fully retest and recertify the item, potential item depreciation, and various fees incurred to relist the item on eBay. Returns for refunds are also contingent upon successful "Transaction Cancelled" requests to eBay, which the buyer must confirm within 7 days of filing. Two-way shipping with full insurance coverage where appropriate is the buyer's responsibility. Please contact me within 7 days of item receipt to request a "buyer's remorse" return.

In the highly unlikely event that you have been shipped the wrong item, your entire purchase price plus shipping in both directions will be refunded. Please contact me immediately for instructions.

I will process all damage claims with the carrier and may request that you return the item. Please retain original shipping containers and notify me immediately if you suspect damage during shipment.

Finally, for those thinking about swapping this good working HDD/SSD caddy for their old broken one and then sending the dud back for a warranty refund, that is simply, absolutely, 100% not going to work - prior to shipment, this item is extensively photographed, all identifying numbers are cataloged, and special UV and other indelible inks are used to mark random internal sections of the item. Any attempts at fraud will be appropriately handled, so don't try!

Shipping and Insurance Info

DOMESTIC U.S. SHIPMENTS:

Insurance to cover the replacement cost of an item lost or damaged during transit is not an optional, separately billable line item during checkout. Therefore, all items of sufficient value automatically carry full insurance coverage for US destinations. This coverage is provided via USPS/FedEx/UPS or ShipCover/other third-party, and is already built into the shipping quote - there is no separate fee charged.

Payment Details

  • PayPal is fine, and funding via your credit card, bank account, PayPal balance, etc. are all OK -- I don't discriminate against any PayPal funding options! Using PayPal is fast, easy, and will ensure speediest delivery. For international shipments, this is the only available payment method!

  • If using PayPal, I will generally only ship to confirmed PayPal addresses, although exceptions may be made for those with excellent eBay feedback on a case-by-case basis.

  • Cash is OK, but ONLY if you're doing a local pick up. I'm sure you know better than to send cash in the mail!

  • If you wish to use any form of payment other than PayPal, please contact me first to check if it is a suitable method, and is allowed by eBay's payment policies. When using a non-PayPal method, there may be a shipment delay to allow time for your payment to be processed (typically several business days). Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis and only for eBay members with exceptionally positive feedback history.

Transaction Feedback

  • I typically leave feedback for buyers shortly after payment has been made. If I'm particularly busy - I have a fairly taxing 'day job' designing CPUs and custom data/image processing chips for a very high-end, next-generation medical diagnostic imaging system - that feedback may be delayed a day or two. Please rest assured, though, that I will not forget to leave it!

  • I ask that once you have received your package and have thoroughly checked out your item, that you reciprocate and leave appropriate feedback for me. I will reply promptly - usually within an hour or two unless it's the wee hours of the morning and I'm asleep!

  • eBay bases their fees on a member's detailed feedback ratings for communications, whether the item was as described, shipping costs, and shipping time. Although they profess that scores of 4 or better are acceptable, in practice, any score less than 5 results in significantly higher 'Final Value' fees (up to 20% higher), which in turn leads to higher prices for buyers. So, if there's anything at all about your transaction that you feel does not merit a score of '5', please let me know right away what I could have done better to earn that score.

  • Shipping Time: please keep in mind that I have absolutely zero control over how long the US Post Office or other contracted carriers take to actually deliver a package to you once they have it in their possession. All I can promise is that all items are shipped either the same day as payment is received or at worst, the very next business day. Parcel Post, in particular, can take a week or longer to cover the distance between California and the East Coast, so if that poses a problem for you, you may want to opt for one of the expedited shipping options! For international buyers, please be aware that shipping time is impacted greatly by how quickly the customs agents of your country process your package. If they are particularly busy (for example, during the winter holiday season), the added delay can be quite substantial! For whichever shipping option you choose, keep in mind that the 'Shipping Time' score is meant to reflect how quickly a seller posts an item after it has been paid for - not how long the carrier takes to actually deliver the package using the buyer's chosen delivery method!!!

  • Shipping Cost: Many of my listings feature free domestic First Class or Parcel Post shipping. For the rest, First Class and Parcel Post shipping, or upgrades to Priority and Express shipping, are typically provided at a slight discount to published USPS rates plus transit insurance and packaging materials cost. For international customers, shipping costs are calculated using the lowest published USPS rates for the available shipping options, plus transit insurance, packaging materials cost, and a very small amount (one US dollar or less) to cover the overhead of filling out various US customs forms.
