Here we have for sale our diagnostic kit for locating faults on a BMW MOST Fibre optic ring. The kit consists of our Tyco (TE) female connector / adapter and fibre optic (POF - Polymer Optical Fibre) cable bypass loop plus our male Tyco (TE) plug. Some BMW MOST modules require the fibre optic cable terminators fitted on the MOST ring to be installed into our male plug provided in this kit before being inserted into our fibre optic loop also included within this kit.

Our high quality cable loops are manufactured to exacting standards under strict Quality Assurance procedures. Please be aware that some fibre optic cable loops originating from the Far East are inferior in quality and the ferrule ends may not be fusion welded. This can result in data being 'dropped' on the fibre optic ring causing spurious faults.

We have sold over 2000 of our fibre optic products to DIY enthusiasts, garage workshops, specialist audio installers, the automotive trade and even BMW & Mercedes Main Dealers; many of these are repeat customers. We have exported our products to over 40 countries across the world and pride ourselves on the speed of our despatch (normally the same day as payment is made if during office hours Mon to Fri). Our UK customers normally receive their order within 2 working days of payment. We provide full after-sales technical support for our products and are proud of our 100% positive eBay feedback.

If your BMW has a fault which is preventing your Radio module, CD Changer module, Phone module, Bluetooth module, SATNAV module, Logic 7 module or SVS Voice Control module from operating correctly this cable loop and male plug will help to diagnose and locate the problem.

European vehicle manufacturers including Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volkswagen interconnect the audio/visual modules in their vehicles using a M.O.S.T (Media Orientated Systems Transport) fibre optic ring. Our Tyco female connector / adapter, fibre optic cable loop and our male plug have been designed to be fully compatible with BMW vehicles fitted with a MOST fibre optic ring.

BMW M.O.S.T rings include a male Tyco connector at each module location which plugs into the back of the module.  This male connector has two fibre optic cables (attached via a twin fibre optic cable terminator) a "data in" cable and a "data out" cable. If any of the modules connected on the ring develop a fault, the ring continuity will be "broken" and the other modules on the ring will not operate. With all the modules not operating the problem is to locate which module, cable or plug is faulty.

This fibre optic diagnostic kit can be used to diagnose and locate faults by systematically bypassing modules from the ring by inserting this adapter loop to bypass the module and maintain the integrity of the M.O.S.T fibre optic ring fitted to your BMW. When the faulty module is bypassed, the remaining modules will operate corectly. If you wish to remove a faulty module from the fibre optic ring for repair or further fault diagnosis you will also require our female Tyco (TE) connector / adaptor and fibre optic loop cable to close the M.O.S.T ring and maintain the integrity of the remaining modules on the ring.

The supplied female Tyco connector / adaptor, fibre optic loop cable and male plug connects to the existing BMW fibre optic cable twin terminator and joins the “data in” cable with the “data out” cable thus re-establishing the continuity of the M.O.S.T ring and bypassing any faulty module.

If the fibre optic cables in your BMW terminate at a MOST module with a twin terminator as shown in the photo below, you will need to insert this connector into the provided male plug before fitting the loop. In some BMW models the twin terminator block below is incorporated into a larger plug with copper cables for power, earth, speaker cables etc. The terminator block can be unclipped from the larger plug before being inserted into the kit provided.

Every kit is tested within a M.O.S.T test rig prior to despatch, this provides both us and the purchaser with complete confidence in the product. Basic generic instructions on fitting the kit are provided with each order.

The configuration of BMW MOST connectors vary from model to model and year to year across the vehicle range. We therefore recommend that before ordering you review the attached links to the drawings for the female Tyco connector, male Tyco connector and twin cable terminator to ensure that the connectors provided in this kit are compatible with the type of fibre optic ring and connectors fitted in your BMW. We always recommend customers to remove a M.O.S.T plug from one of the modules fitted in their BMW and compare it with the information and links provided in this listing to ensure compatibility before ordering.

As an example, a customer recently successfully used this kit to test the MOST fibre optic ring and modules fitted to his BMW e65. This kit enables operation of the following modules to be checked:

CDC (CD Changer - in dash)

AVT (Antenna Amplifier Tuner)

Logic7 (Audio Amplifier)

SVS (Speech Processing System)

NAVI (Sat Nav)

MMC (Multi Media Changer)

TEL (Telephone Interface)

If you loop out the phone module, the car will still issue a warning as the built-in SOS function will also be disabled. Each module can be checked by looping (or bypassing) them out singly, reset the MOST bus and re-test. The only modules that cannot be looped out individually are the KOMBI (Instrument cluster), CD (Control Display), and ASK (Audio System Controller). If all the other module are OK after looping each one out, then one of the controlling units (KOMBI, ASK or CD) are at fault.

Some BMWs take around 30 minutes before the car MOST system goes fully into sleep mode. In order to ensure that you have looped out a module and re-test the system, you can either wait 30 minutes after bypassing a module and locking the vehicle with the remote (this action puts for the MOST system into sleep mode) then unlock the car to wake the MOST system and automatically initiate a system check or with the ignition on (but the engine not running) reset the MOST bus by plugging and unplugging the connector in the OPPS connection loop which goes back to the KOMBI unit and is located inside the top of the glove box in the BMW e65.

If you are looking to add a module onto an existing MOST fibre optic ring, please contact us about the supply of male Tyco connectors, female Tyco connectors, in-line connectors and fibre optic cables with ferrule terminals all available in various lengths and quantities. Please note that modifications, adding or removing modules from an existing fibre optic ring may involve re-programming of the vehicle using specialist equipment.
